Sleep Dentistry
Sedation dentistry/sleep dentistry uses medication to help patients relax during dental procedures
It is used to provide a relaxing and anxiety-free experience for certain people receiving dental treatment.
One of the biggest fear patients have about coming to the dentist is pain. In fact, fear can run so deep that people refuse to visit the dentist at all, which can obviously negatively impact their oral health. To make sure our patients have the most comfortable visit, we offer sleep dentistry.
What is Sleep Dentistry?
Conscious sedation, or Sleep Dentistry, uses a type of sedation to induce a sleep-like state to minimize any pain or discomfort they might feel during their procedure. Patients are usually responsive and can still control their own breathing.
What Are Different Types of Sleep Dentistry
IV Sedation is when medication is applied intravenously to provide deep relaxation. You will still be conscious, able to breathe on your own, and understand and respond to the dentist.
General Anaesthesia is administered by our Anaesthesiologist MD to provide a completely unconscious state during your procedure. Your airway and vital signs are monitored closely throughout your procedure.
Nitrous oxide is gas that patients breathe through their nose during treatment. It is the lightest of our sedation options and provides a mild euphoric feeling. Oral Sedation requires the patient takes a pill orally, which is especially helpful for patients who have a fear of needles.
